This one day course is designed to inspire and inform Primary Headteachers and their Senior Managers to strengthen teaching, learning and thinking throughout the school . The day is divided into four sessions with each session having a specific focus: Session 1: VISION AND ETHOS: How to develop a vision and ethos for your school that promotes effective teaching, learning and thinking. Session 2: STRENGTHENING TEACHING. This session considers the formulation and implementation of a teaching policy that inspires staff to teach for learning, cater for different learning styles (Logical & creative learners, Visual Auditory and Kinaesthetic Learners and Boy and Girl Learners). It also examines how to secure personalised learning in the classroom. Session 3: LEARNING TO LEARN SKILLS: This session demonstrates what children can be taught about the learning brain, their preferred way of learning and remembering information and how to develop their confidence, competence and identity as effective learners. Session 4: THINKING SKILLS. This session examines how to create thinking classrooms and lessons with independent thinking children. Each delegate will receive a comprehensive set of course notes for use within the school. The course is led by Trevor Hawes, one of the UK ’s leading experts on teaching and learning in the primary classroom. During the day Trevor draws upon the work he has undertaken in schools which has resulted not only in improved SATs results and glowing OFSTED inspections but more importantly, enthusiastic, happy learners, enthusiastic, happy teaching staff and happy, supportive parents.
